Our Design Team
Our Design team at Xero brings together a diverse range of skills, including digital product design, content design, and visual design, all focused on crafting beautiful and effective experiences for our users. We're looking for a Front-end Prototyper (Design Technologist) to expand our prototyping capabilities through your expert coding skills and deep understanding of front-end development principles. You'll play a crucial role in bringing design concepts to life through interactive prototypes, collaborating closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to shape and validate ideas with customers. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the evolution of our Design System and champion front-end best practices within the team.
- You’ll report to an Australia-based manager within the Design team, leading our prototyping efforts
- You’ll partner closely with other designers to accelerate our work by creating high-fidelity, functional prototypes for use across all design phases, from initial concept exploration to user testing and informing final development.
- You’ll collaborate with your peers to refine and improve existing prototypes and explore more efficient prototyping approaches, helping to define and champion front-end best practices going forward.
- You’ll work with research colleagues to ensure prototypes are robust and effectively address user research objectives.
- You’ll play a key role in educating and mentoring other designers on best practices and techniques for advanced prototyping.
- You’ll contribute to the definition and creation of new patterns for our Design System, ensuring consistency and scalability across our products.
- You’ll be an advocate for exceptional product experiences for our customers, ensuring prototypes effectively demonstrate and validate these experiences.
- Proven proficiency front end technologies such as HTML, CSS (Tailwind CSS), and JavaScript, with a strong focus on responsive design and web accessibility (WCAG).
- A portfolio showcasing your ability to build scalable, modular applications using component-based architecture with Next.js/React or similar.
- Familiarity with modern build tools (e.g., Vite, Babel, ESLint, Prettier), version control (Git/GitHub), and deployment processes.
- Practical experience working with design tokens and Figma for design specifications.
- Experience improving and documenting technical assets like boilerplates.
- Portfolio of work that displays both design and technology experience
