Harbor

Director, Client Engagement

Job Description

Harbor is seeking a Senior Business Developer to join our Law Firm Client Engagement team.

As a Client Engagement Specialist at Harbor, you will play a critical role in driving strategic growth within the legal industry. You are a seasoned business developer with deep knowledge of the legal sector and a passion for uncovering and expanding opportunities in your assigned territory.

In this client-facing role, you will focus on building strong, consultative relationships with law firm clients—understanding their unique challenges and aligning Harbor’s solutions to meet their needs. Your efforts will help position Harbor as a trusted, long-term partner through insightful, solution-oriented conversations that drive business outcomes.

Aligned with Harbor’s go-to-market strategy, you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across our Go-to-Market (GTM) and Delivery teams, as well as external alliance partners. Together, you’ll design and present tailored, high-impact solutions that expand client engagement and business value. You’ll report directly to the Chief Growth Officer, with responsibility for driving growth in our Law Firm segment.

This is a full-time, remote position, with preference given to candidates based in the New York City area. We are also highly interested in candidates located in other key Northeast markets, including Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C.

What You’ll Do

  • Territory & Account Strategy: Develop and execute strategic growth plans for your assigned accounts and territory, ensuring clients are aware of Harbor’s full value and solution portfolio.

  • Opportunity Identification & Expansion: Proactively uncover and pursue whitespace opportunities within your accounts, aligning Harbor’s offerings with client needs to drive revenue growth.

  • Collaborative Solution Development: Work closely with Delivery team colleagues to co-develop and advance client-centric solutions that address key business challenges.

  • Executive Relationship Building: Engage with C-level stakeholders to build trusted, long-term relationships by understanding their business, industry dynamics, and strategic objectives.

  • Pipeline & Forecast Management: Maintain a robust sales pipeline by consistently opening, progressing, and closing opportunities; provide accurate, up-to-date forecasts that reflect progress toward your goals.

  • Marketing Partnership: Leverage enterprise marketing initiatives—including events, campaigns, and community programs—to support pipeline growth and accelerate opportunities in your territory.

We think you’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • Extensive Experience: 10+ years of success in B2B business development within large, complex organizations — with a strong track record of working with law firms.

  • Strategic Sales Execution: A proven ability to build and execute territory growth plans using structured sales methodologies (e.g., MEDDIC), combined with strong pipeline and forecast management.

  • Leadership & Influence: Experience leading cross-functional account pursuit teams, aligning internal and external stakeholders, and building lasting client relationships based on trust and results.

  • Legal Industry Expertise: A deep understanding of the legal landscape, particularly large law firms and corporate legal departments, including the trends, pressures, and opportunities shaping the industry.

  • Collaborative Mindset: A talent for working across teams—Delivery, Go-to-Market, and Operations—to align efforts and create seamless, value-driven client experiences.

What You Can Expect From Us

  • Flexible Work Environment: Enjoy the freedom of a remote-first role, with a focus on collaboration across U.S. Eastern cities.

  • Comprehensive Benefits: Access a competitive benefits package, including flexible paid time off, medical and dental coverage, retirement plans, and ongoing professional development support.

  • Inclusive & Supportive Culture: Be part of an organization that values belonging through active employee resource groups, community and social initiatives that make a real impact.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
