Job Description

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who is excited to bring Pulumi’s cloud programming model to the world. You will be part of realizing a vision where every developer can harness the power of the cloud.

The Ecosystem team works at the intersection between cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes) and developer platforms (programming languages, APIs, and application lifecycle), helping define the future of what it means to program the cloud. In this team, you will guide and grow the engineers who build Pulumi providers, create higher-level components, and enable our community to develop their own providers, components, and integrations.

Expect to be challenged, learn, and collaborate with a world-class team and our amazing developer community.

While Pulumi is headquartered in Seattle, WA, we are dedicated to being a remote-first company. This role can be located remotely in the United States or in Europe. There will be occasional travel (2–4 weeks per year) for internal and external events.

In This Role You Will

  • Inspire the Team: Inspire and coach a distributed group of engineers, setting clear goals and maintaining high standards for quality and impact.
  • Hire & Develop Talent: Recruit top engineering talent, foster an inclusive environment, and support continuous professional growth.
  • Deliver Key Ecosystem Projects: Oversee the design and development of Pulumi providers and higher-level libraries, ensuring they deliver value to both enterprise users and the open-source community.
  • Manage Product & Technical Roadmaps: Collaborate with product management and stakeholders to define scope, set realistic timelines, and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Foster a Collaborative Culture: Promote open communication, knowledge sharing, and a culture of continuous improvement within the team and the broader community.
  • Mentor & Coach: Provide regular feedback, manage performance with empathy, and guide engineers through career milestones.
  • Champion Community Engagement: Encourage community contributions and user feedback; actively represent the team’s work in open-source discussions and forums.

We’re Looking For Someone With

  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management.
  • 3+ years experience building developer tools
  • Technical Background: Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP) and/or Kubernetes, and an interest in infrastructure-as-code or DevOps tools.
  • Capable of articulating complex ideas clearly, both within the team and to external stakeholders.
  • A track record of collaborating on or leading open-source projects is a plus.
  • Passionate about delivering developer-friendly solutions that solve real-world problems.
  • Eagerness to explore new technologies, foster fresh perspectives, and help shape the next generation of developer tools.

Compensation:

  • Base Salary Hiring Range: $180,500 - $227,850
  • All full-time employee offers at Pulumi include base salary, bonus or variable, equity and benefits (details below).

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
