Job Description

We’re seeking a highly knowledgeable and experienced Tech Lead who thrives in early stage environments that provide freedom to move fast and ship new customer-facing products and features at high velocity. You’ll work closely with the founders of the company and have a high degree of influence and input. The right candidate will have a high degree of versatility and excels at creating software at all layers of web application platforms, with a large scale systems architect’s mindset. The role requires outstanding communication and customer empathy skills, and a strong background in developing consumer facing applications. Since we are a remote first company, you will simultaneously need to be able to collaborate well, and be self-directed and work independently.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, engineering, design, legal, customer success, customer support and executive leadership, to align product development with company objectives and drive measurable results.

The ideal person will be passionate about building consumer data security and privacy products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Mentor and guide the engineering team, fostering a collaborative environment to solve complex problems. Ensure the technical excellence of our products and oversee the architectural vision and integrations.

  • System Design: Lead the design and implementation of robust solutions across multiple platforms and touchpoints in the consumer privacy sector.

  • Security and Compliance: Champion the best practices in user data security, ensuring our systems uphold stringent standards.

  • Performance Optimization: Identify and address performance bottlenecks, ensuring scalable and efficient software architecture.

  • Innovation and Deployment: Utilize cutting-edge technologies including Kubernetes, microservices, and cloud platforms (AWS) to enhance our operational capabilities.

Technologies

  • Backend development with Django and Python; familiarity with Node.js is a plus.

  • Working in Django at Scale

  • Expertise in databases such as PostgreSQL, and experience with NoSQL solutions like Redis, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Cassandra.

  • Proficiency in frontend technologies including HTMX, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Experience with asynchronous job execution and event brokers like RabbitMQ or Kafka.

  • Implementation of third-party APIs and understanding of microservices architecture.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years experience in software development with significant experience as a tech lead.

  • Strong foundational knowledge in Computer Science.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to work on complex software systems.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work remotely and manage across time zones.

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, adapt to change, and drive results.

  • A strong interest in cybersecurity and data privacy, with bonus points for prior experience in the sector.

Location

This is aremote-first position, based in the United States. Optery is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, but operates as a fully-remote global team.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $120K - $185K
