ClassDojo

Growth Engineering Manager

Job Description

ClassDojo's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.

We started by building a powerful network for communication. ClassDojo’s flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-12 teachers, children, and families globally. Teachers use it to share what’s happening throughout the day through photos, videos, and messages that make parents feel like they’re there. It’s actively used in over 95% of US schools, reaching over 45 million children in 180 countries, with a team of just around 200 people [1]. We are now beginning to use this network to give kids the best learning experiences in the world, far beyond those a standard school can provide.

We hire for talent density. Our team comprises the most talented, entrepreneurial, and innovative teammates from around the world, with experience in education and large scale consumer internet companies, including Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Stripe, Uber, Y Combinator, and more. We’re building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here—and you’ll pioneer the future of education, too.

What you’ll do:

  • As an Engineering Manager, you will help support teams and build products that will give every child on Earth an education they love. You will coach and empower teams to take ownership of their goals together, strengthen engineering culture, and be an active part of teams to achieve pioneering outcomes. We value those who create psychological safety, including building a blameless, learning-oriented, curiosity vs judgment culture.
  • We appreciate Engineering Managers that want to be hands-on with their teams. We don’t expect that you would be coding full-time, but you can expect to code quite a bit (50%+ of the time) and to be comfortable and able to support the team in the details of their work as a code contributing member.
  • As a Growth Engineering Manager, you will work cross-functionally to create and execute on strategies that drive user growth, engagement, and retention. You will use your experience driving strong, successful outcomes to educate and scale a growth mindset in each team you support.

You will be a match if:

  • You have at least 8 years of professional software engineering experience and are excited to be hands on, regularly contributing code for the team.
  • You have at least 3 years of professional experience managing direct reports on a product team, with at least 2 of those years managing a growth team.
  • You are in the Americas time zone.

You might be a good fit if:

  • You coach teams and individuals to achieve high standards and top performance, and have the results and specific proof points to back that up.
  • You build safe environments that encourage collaboration and learning.
  • You obsess over quality, and continuously look for ways to improve how teams improve it.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
