About the job

This position is needed to enable our customers to build the future of communications. The Principal Solutions Architect is a critical part of the sales team focused on our ISV segment.

Twilio’s Principal Solutions Architects are responsible for delivering the Technical Win and best Product Fit to our customers.They lead the technical pre-sales relationship, drive technical discovery, propose technical architectures, demonstrate the product, anticipate concerns and offer creative solutions. They build customer trust in Twilio solutions.

Principal Solutions Architects should be comfortable engaging a CEO or sketching out an API flow on a whiteboard with customer software engineers.

As a Principal Solutions Architect you will be recognized by senior leadership as the premier of Solutions Engineers dedicated to pods for the impact you have on opportunities, your team and your segment with a clearly identifiable impact on your segment and the Solutions Engineering team’s overall goals. You will proactively identify and drive initiatives, define best practices for the organization, and develop reusable solution blueprints that have impact across the Go-to-Market organization in addition to your mastery of even the most complex of deals. You will be seen as a trusted advisor for both the sales executive leadership and the members of the product team.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Partner with Account Executives to execute pre-sales activities including opportunity qualification, demonstrations, Proof-of-Concept, RFP, design documentation, technical presentations and enablement sessions.
  • Help customers achieve success by leading the technical and product sale, recommending best-practice solutions, and guiding them on how to use Twilio’s APIs.
  • Establish yourself as a trusted advisor to our customers up to the C-level, by taking the lead on understanding customer technical pains through discovery in order to design, demonstrate, and present innovative solutions that solve business challenges.
  • Build and present highly interactive, complex and engaging customer product demonstrations to help showcase the capabilities of Twilio’s Communications Products, while effectively forming strong customer relationships with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders
  • Be Hands-on, high-energy, passionate, and a creative problem solver, equipped with the knowledge of how to get things done and ability to lead others to success.
  • Contribute to the broader Twilio Solutions Engineering community through knowledge sharing, constructing demonstration materials, and creating reusable presentations
  • Work with product leadership to support new strategies and product launches
  • Build innovative solutions to customer use cases and identify standards for future needs
  • Mentor less experienced Solutions Engineers and Solutions Architects on initiatives they are pursuing
  • Contribute to Twilio’s blog, white papers, and present at marketing events and industry conferences
  • Lead Architectural Reviews, ensuring consistency and high standards of both design and level of documentation and presentation
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Product Management team

Required:

  • 15+ years pre-sales experience selling complex, technical products or 15+ years of professional experience supporting technical products coupled with customer facing experience, particularly in delivery or consulting
  • Advanced proficiency in written and verbal communication, adeptly conveying strategic vision and influencing stakeholders across all organizational levels, both internally and externally
  • Previous experience with customer engagement and supporting products and technologies along with communicating the ROI of products across various use cases to customers.
  • Previous mentor/coaching experience and working with new hires/early in career Solutions Engineers on use cases
  • Participates in external forums and events as a thought leader, contributing to industry discourse and shaping perceptions of the company.
  • Fosters high-performing teams and provides visionary leadership, setting ambitious long-term goals and motivating others to achieve them
  • Full understanding of the industry, Twilio’s competitors and Twilio’s place in the market
  • Customer focused problem solver, adept at striking the balance between crafting innovative technical solutions and prioritizing the customer's best interests.
  • Exhibits excellent time management and prioritization abilities, adept at handling competing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Previous software development experience or working knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure) and cloud application architecture.
  • Previous experience in Telecom, SIP, Contact Center, or Security
  • Experience with sales methodologies
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in a technical discipline (Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science) or equivalent practical experience

Desired:

  • Experience managing strategic accounts and evangelizing new use cases and technology in the Enterprise or ISV space

Location

This role will be remote, but is not eligible to be hired in CA, CT, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, OR, PA, RI, TX, VA, WA, or Washington DC.

Travel

We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, approximately 25% travel is anticipated to help you connect in-person in a meaningful way.

Compensation

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Minnesota or Vermont : $187,700 - $234,600.
  • Based in Washington D.C., Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay Area): $198,100 - $247,600.
  • Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or the San Francisco Bay area, California: $208,500 - $260,600.
  • This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
  • This role is eligible to earn commissions.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
