Job Description

About Us

dbt Labs is the pioneer of analytics engineering, helping data teams transform raw data into reliable, actionable insights. Since 2016, we’ve grown from an open source project into the leading analytics engineering platform, now used by over 50,000 teams every week.

We’re backed by top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Altimeter. At our core, we believe in empowering data practitioners:

  • Code-based data transformations unlock transparency, flexibility, and collaboration
  • Analysts should adopt software engineering best practices to build trusted data products
  • Core analytics infrastructure should be open source and user-controlled
  • Analytic code—not just tools—should be shared and community-driven
dbt is now synonymous with analytics engineering, defining the modern data stack and serving as the data control plane for enterprise teams around the world. And we’re just getting started. We’re growing fast and building a team of passionate, curious people across the globe. Learn more about what makes us special by checking out our values.

As a Senior Product Designer at dbt Labs, you'll be at the forefront of reimagining how teams orchestrate and validate their data transformations at scale. You will drive the design vision for our orchestration and CI/CD features, creating intelligent solutions that help enterprise customers manage their data workflows with unprecedented ease and efficiency.

Your work will directly impact how data teams collaborate and ensure quality across their data transformations, helping them deliver more reliable data products faster. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to reshape how data practitioners interact with orchestration tools, making sophisticated workflows more accessible and maintainable while delivering tangible cost savings for our users.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about solving complex technical challenges through thoughtful design, someone who can turn intricate workflows into intuitive experiences while maintaining the power and flexibility that our users need.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Lead the design vision for our orchestration features, creating experiences that help enterprise customers manage technical workflows with ease
  • Design AI-enabled features for CI/CD that empower developers to improve their dbt code and catch issues before they impact production
  • Create seamless experiences that bridge dbt Core and dbt Cloud, enabling more users to benefit from enterprise-grade features
  • Take concepts from research through to production while collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, and other designers
  • Conduct user research sessions with data practitioners across different time zones to deeply understand their needs and validate solutions
  • Be an active member of the Design team by sharing your work, participating in design reviews, and helping others elevate their work
  • Contribute to our design system, ensuring consistency and efficiency across our product suite

You are a good fit if you:

  • Have 8+ years of experience designing for web-based applications and tools, not just websites
  • Have shipped technical products that solve enterprise user needs
  • Have a deep understanding of the end-to-end design process, from discovery through to post-launch iteration
  • Have strong communication skills and can effectively explain design decisions to technical stakeholders
  • Are highly proficient in Figma or other modern design and collaboration tools
  • Can flex your working hours to ensure overlap with ET timezone for collaboration with the team
  • Are comfortable occasionally adapting your schedule to conduct user research with customers in different time zones
  • Are highly collaborative and thrive in a remote-first environment

You'll have an edge if you:

  • Have experience designing developer tools, especially in the data infrastructure space
  • Have worked on orchestration platforms, CI/CD tools, or data quality products
  • Have experience with dbt or similar data transformation tools
  • Have successfully designed products that drive user adoption through engaging feedback loops
  • Understand the fundamentals of data engineering and analytics engineering workflows

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: 150,000 - 220,000 USD
  • Equity Stake
  • Benefits - dbt Labs offers:
    • Unlimited vacation (and yes we use it!)
    • 401k plan
    • Excellent healthcare
    • Paid Parental Leave
    • Wellness stipend
    • Home office stipend,
    • Cell phone & Internet stipend, and more!

A note on applying & process

  • Not sure you meet 100% of our qualifications? Please apply anyway! We look for people with exceptional potential and who are excited to join our team, as we know highest performing teams include people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences.
  • We’ll ask you to participate in a portfolio presentation. Your portfolio should outline the problems you were tackling with your design work. Your portfolio should touch on your approach to solving design challenges, in addition to visual design. Your experience should ideally focus on designing software products, not landing pages or websites.

What to expect in the hiring process:

  • interview with a Talent Acquisition Partner
  • interview with our Director of Product Design
  • Portfolio Presentation w/ members of the Product Design Team
  • A team interview including multiple members of the Product Team

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
