What Product Management is like at Gusto:
- We’re looking for high-autonomy, entrepreneurial Product Managers to come build high-impact solutions for small businesses and their employees. We believe in high-ownership Product Managers who operate like business owners - owning an entire roadmap end to end and shipping product all the way from strategy through to the nitty gritty details (some describe this kind of role as a “GM” type role).
- Our Product team is lean, which means you’ll have a high degree of impact and ownership.
- We’re here to serve small and medium businesses. Gusto has a strong mission-driven culture, and we care deeply about lifting up these business owners.
About the Team:

Our vision is to engage and support customers throughout their entire business journey, helping them navigate essential compliance tasks and growth opportunities. You'll join a nimble team functioning like a startup within Gusto, driving ambitious goals to transform how SMBs manage compliance.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Ownership: Define and prioritize high-impact initiatives, driving clarity and alignment across the organization to achieve cohesive end-to-end customer solutions.
- North Star: Navigate complex regulatory environments, shaping strategic initiatives that achieve and iterate on product-market fit while enabling scale.
- Collaborate: Partner deeply with compliance, engineering, design, marketing, and operations teams to align cross-functional efforts, clearly manage dependencies, and deliver transformative customer experiences. Accelerate team expertise in entity management and regulatory compliance through mentorship and strategic leadership.
Here’s what we're looking for:
- 5+ years of direct Product Management experience, specifically within highly regulated, compliance-sensitive domains such as fintech, payroll, tax, or legal tech.
- Demonstrated track record successfully building products from zero-to-one, including defining strategic vision and executing through launch.
- Comfort and resilience in ambiguous environments, adept at clarifying complex initiatives and structuring actionable strategies despite incomplete or evolving regulations.
- Proven ability integrating human-powered operations with technology-driven solutions, optimizing workflows over time through automation.
- Experience effectively navigating organizational complexities and legacy systems, driving incremental progress through thoughtful risk management and persistent execution.
- Exceptional cross-functional influence, able to build alignment across engineering, compliance, operations, and marketing teams without direct authority.
- Skilled communicator, translating complex regulatory requirements into clear product strategies that teams can act on confidently and quickly.
If you don't think you meet all of the criteria above but still are interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box, and we're looking for someone excited to join the team.

Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
