Staff Strategic Product Manager, Community Products

Are you a visionary product leader passionate about shaping the future of online communities and empowering technologists worldwide? Stack Overflow, the definitive platform for developers and technologists, is seeking a Staff Strategic Product Manager to drive the next evolution of our community products. This is a unique opportunity to define and launch innovative solutions that will impact millions, charting the course for how the world's current and next generation of technologists learn, share, and collaborate.

As a Staff Strategic Product Manager on the Community Products team, you won't just manage a product; you'll explore, evaluate, and bring to life strategic initiatives that push the boundaries of our platform and ecosystem. You'll operate at the intersection of deep user understanding, cutting-edge technology (especially AI), and market trends, working hand-in-hand with senior leadership to identify and capitalize on the biggest opportunities for growth and impact.

This role is for a proven product strategist with a strong bias for action, who thrives in ambiguous, greenfield environments and can translate complex ideas into tangible, high-impact products. If you're excited by the prospect of defining the future of knowledge sharing for developers and building products that become indispensable to their daily lives, we want to talk to you.

What you’ll do:

  • Shape the Future: Partner closely with senior product leadership and lead the exploration, validation, and development of new strategic products and initiatives that redefine Stack Overflow's public community platform, identifying and seizing opportunities that significantly enhance value for technologists.
  • Drive Strategic Vision: closely work with product research, design, marketing, and data science to define, iterate on, and evangelize the long-term product strategy for Community Products.
  • Strategic Roadmapping & Execution: Own the strategic roadmap for critical cross-team initiatives, ensuring alignment across the organization and driving successful execution from concept to launch and beyond.
  • Market Intelligence & Innovation: Continuously monitor industry trends, emerging technologies (especially AI/ML), and competitor movements to identify disruptive opportunities and potential threats, translating insights into actionable product strategies.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage quantitative and qualitative data, user research, and market analysis to rigorously evaluate opportunities, make informed decisions, and focus our efforts on initiatives with the highest potential impact.
  • User-Centric Innovation: Champion user-centered design and development, engaging directly with our global community of developers and customers through workshops, interviews, and experiments to uncover unmet needs and validate solutions.
  • Define Success: Establish clear metrics for success, measure the effectiveness of new products and features, and iterate rapidly based on performance and user feedback.

What you’ll need to have:

  • 8+ years of product management experience, with a strong emphasis on strategic initiatives, new product development, or innovation within a technical market.
  • Proven track record in greenfield environments: Demonstrated ability to build new products, teams, frameworks, or processes from scratch, comfortable with rapid iteration and ambiguity.
  • Exceptional Strategic & Analytical Skills: Capacity to identify large-scale opportunities, break down complex problems, articulate a clear product vision, and leverage data for decision-making.
  • Deep Product Discovery Expertise: Experience with early-stage testing and discovery methods (e.g., usability testing, A/B tests, user interviewing).
  • Technical & UX Acumen: Strong understanding of technical architectures, UX principles, and their implications for product requirements.
  • Outstanding Communication & Collaboration: Ability to craft compelling narratives, influence diverse stakeholders, and drive consensus across complex initiatives.
  • Growth and Innovative Mindset: Excitement for and/or experience with AI/data-driven solutions and collaborating with data science teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience partnering externally to design, test, and build product integrations for shared user groups.
  • Background in developer communities, social platforms, AI/data products, or B2C products.
  • A strong understanding of Stack Overflow and the broader developer ecosystem.

Also note:

  • We’re a distributed, remote team, and you’ll be part of a work culture that emphasizes online & asynchronous communication with minimal meetings and ceremonies
  • We’re generally very flexible on working hours, though we do ask everyone on the team to maintain an overlap with (at least) 10 AM - 1 PM US Eastern time.

If you're a product leader who thrives on strategic challenges and wants to make a tangible impact on the lives of millions of technologists globally, we encourage you to apply. Join us in shaping the next chapter of Stack Overflow!

What you’ll get in return:

  • Competitive Base Salary
  • Generous paid vacation

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
