The Data Labeling team strives to consistently provide high quality data at scale to support Pinterest ML initiatives. We are a team of highly-skilled program managers on a mission to accelerate Pinterest growth and revenue by producing high quality training data fast, at scale to support ML initiatives and enhance pinners experience.
The Data Labeling Manager is responsible for driving high-quality data labeling operations essential to AI/ML initiatives at Pinterest. This strategic role blends technical expertise and program management to optimize labeling workflows, oversee vendor relationships, and ensure data accuracy at scale. Leading a high-performing team, the manager constantly improves his team team’s output by ensuring our processes are at the forefront of innovation and trustworthiness, and that our labeled data meets organizational standards and supports both product and business objectives.
About the Role:
Pinterest’s AI/ML ambitions depend on high-quality labeled data at scale. We’re seeking an experienced and visionary Data Labeling Manager to own and advance Pinterest’s global data labeling function. This pivotal role will drive strategy, build and mentor a high-performing team, optimize labeling operations, and ensure best-in-class tooling, quality, and compliance.
What You’ll Do:
- Set Strategy: Define and execute Pinterest’s data labeling roadmap to support our AI/ML product ambitions. Invest in tooling and workflow automation to maximize efficiency and quality.
- Lead & Mentor: Build, grow, and inspire a diverse team of program and project managers. Foster belonging, upskilling, and high performance by sharing best practices and building an inclusive culture.
- Drive Excellence: Manage complex, cross-functional labeling initiatives. Standardize workflows and use metrics-driven dashboards to ensure high data quality, throughput, and ROI.
- Scale Vendor Partnerships: oversee external labeling vendors and tooling solutions, and actively engage with the vendor management team to drive ROI.
- Own Budgets: Monitor and manage all budgeting for labeling operations, ensuring fiscal discipline. Collaborate with Finance to forecast, report, and optimize spend for strategic impact.
- Champion Quality & Innovation: Set high standards for data accuracy and throughput. Drive adoption of automation and ML-driven processes, piloting new tools, and continuously improving workflows.
- Communicate Impact: Present program status, operational results, and key insights to executives and partner teams. Deliver real-time transparency via dashboards and robust reporting.
What We’re Looking For:
- 10+ years of experience in technical program management with proven experience leading data labeling operations in a fast-paced, data-centric environment
- Ability to lead complex, cross-functional projects from goal-setting to execution with measurable outcomes
- Strong track record in organizational management, forecasting, budgeting, and resource allocation
- Hands-on with modern labeling tools, workflow automation, and ML/AI-powered solutions
- Metrics-driven mindset: data quality, throughput, cost, and ROI are your guideposts
- Deep understanding of compliance, data privacy, and security in data operations
- Experience sourcing and managing external vendors and technical solutions
- Exceptional program management skills and a track record of delivering complex, cross-functional initiatives
- Strong people leader, with experience building diverse, high-performing teams
- Skilled communicator, able to build relationships and work effectively both independently and across teams, including with vendors
- Experience designing and managing scaled labeling workflows across multiple use cases and projects
- Adept at creating efficient, scalable processes and driving continuous improvement
- Technical acumen and judgment—able to quickly grasp complex systems, break down problems, and lead effective decision-making
- Proficient with Google Workspace and the latest AI technology (LLM, ChatGPT, notebooklm, Copilot…)
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management abilities. Ability to influence teams & drive alignment among multiple stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Statistics, or related discipline)

- We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
- This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times every 6-months and therefore can be situated anywhere in the country.
