Our team, backed by Y Combinator and from a celebrity roster of tech luminaries and celebrities, including Doordash co-founder Stanley Tang, NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana, Gmail creator Paul Buchheit, and Twitch cofounder Justin Kan, is scaling the cannabis supply chain with technology and our ultimate goal is to become the largest distributor of cannabis products in the world.
The Role
Nabis is looking for a VP of Engineering to lead our growing Product & Engineering organization, currently 44 people strong and distributed across the U.S. and India. We're seeking a hands-on, strategic engineering leader who can scale our systems, grow our global team, and drive high-impact delivery in collaboration with Product and Executive leadership.
This role reports to the President and sits on the executive team. You’ll be responsible for setting the technical vision, building strong engineering culture and process, and delivering high-quality, scalable software products that power the modern cannabis supply chain. You will work closely with Product, Design, and Operations to ensure technology is aligned with business strategy and execution.
The ideal candidate has scaled high-performing, distributed engineering teams in startup or scale-up environments, has a strong grasp of AI/ML-powered platforms, and can operate at both strategic and tactical levels to unblock teams, drive decisions, and ship high-quality product.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a globally distributed engineering org (U.S. + India-based contractors), fostering alignment, accountability, and inclusive culture
- Define and execute the technical roadmap in partnership with the Product and Executive teams
- Architect and scale infrastructure to support AI-native, data-heavy systems and automation tooling
- Drive engineering excellence across delivery, quality, documentation, and velocity
- Own hiring, org design, career development, and team performance across engineering
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to define quarterly priorities and long-term investments
- Build systems that integrate automation, security, scalability, and reliability as defaults
- Ensure contractors are effectively managed, scoped, and integrated with full-time teams
- Provide technical mentorship, unblock ICs and EMs, and dive into architecture when needed
- Represent Engineering in executive meetings and help drive company-wide decisions
Qualifications:
- 10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years in engineering leadership roles (Director/VP level or above)
- Proven success leading distributed or hybrid teams, especially managing international contractors in India or other offshore partnerships
- Experience with AI/ML-powered platforms, developer infrastructure, or automation tooling
- Background in fast-growing startups or scale-ups; you've built engineering orgs and processes from the ground up
- Strong technical depth with the ability to participate in high-level system architecture, technical decision-making, and problem solving
- Expertise in organizational design, hiring, and people development
- Excellent cross-functional leadership and communication skills, with a low-ego, high-accountability mindset
- Strategic operator who thrives in ambiguity and scales operations through systems, not heroics
- Experience in supply chain, logistics, or B2B platforms a plus, but not required
- Must be able to pass a background check

Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
