The Role:
We are seeking a Director of Data Science to lead and scale our data science function. This is a strategic leadership role where you will take a small team and build it into a high-impact function that drives data-driven decision-making, AI-powered optimization, and business intelligence across the company. You will work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to develop models that enhance pricing, personalization, fraud detection, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and execute the vision and roadmap for Data Science at Engine.
- Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing Data Science team.
- Develop and deploy machine learning models to optimize pricing, search, and recommendations.
- Work closely with engineering to build a scalable data infrastructure.
- Partner with product and business leaders to identify opportunities for AI-driven innovation.
- Establish best practices for experimentation, model evaluation, and A/B testing.
- Advocate for a data-driven culture, ensuring insights drive decision-making at all levels.
- Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging AI technologies relevant to travel.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in Data Science, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience hiring, mentoring, and scaling data science teams.
- Deep expertise in machine learning, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis.
- Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn).
- Experience working with large-scale data sets, cloud computing (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and data pipelines.
- Background in marketplace, travel, or e-commerce industries is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex insights into business impact.
Cash compensation: The base salary range for this role is $220,000-$275,000. Final compensation packages are determined by various factors, including prior experience and expertise. This role is also eligible to receive equity compensation.
