About Reserv
Reserv is an insurtech creating and incubating cutting-edge AI and automation technology to bring efficiency and simplicity to claims. Founded by insurtech veterans with deep experience in SaaS and digital claims, Reserv is venture-backed by Bain Capital and Altai Ventures and began operations in May 2022. We are focused on automating highly manual tasks to tackle long-standing problems in claims and set a new standard for TPAs, insurance technology providers, and people alike.
We have ambitious (but attainable!) goals and need people who can work in an evolving environment. If building a leading TPA and the prospect of tackling the long-standing challenges of the claims role sounds exciting, we can’t wait to meet you.
About the role
As an Engineering Manager at Reserv, you will lead a high-performing engineering team, driving the delivery of innovative, scalable, and reliable technology solutions aligned with our business goals. You’ll work closely with the Director of Engineering and other senior leaders to shape our technical strategy, foster cross-functional collaboration, and ensure our engineering culture supports both growth and innovation.
This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution—you’ll mentor and develop engineers, optimize team processes, and champion a culture of quality, ownership, and customer focus. Your leadership will be essential in scaling the organization, enhancing technical capabilities, and making decisions that deliver meaningful impact.
Who You Are
- A thoughtful communicator, able to translate complex technical topics for non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Passionate about building strong engineering cultures rooted in collaboration, psychological safety, and accountability.
- Excited by the challenges of leading in a remote-first environment and skilled at fostering connection and alignment across distributed teams.
- Committed to quality, security, and operational excellence—not just shipping fast, but shipping well.
What We Need
- A leader with a proven ability to guide engineering teams through complex technical decisions, architectural tradeoffs, and long-term planning.
- Someone who can mentor engineers across experience levels while driving clarity, focus, and execution within and across teams.
- A pragmatic thinker with a strong grasp of the full software development lifecycle, including devops, QA, and security considerations.
- A partner to product, design, and business stakeholders—helping connect technical direction to broader company goals.
- A strong advocate for quality assurance through well-defined testing frameworks and code review practices.
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams, with a track record of impact at previous roles.
- Professional experience as an engineer in at least one of our core languages or frameworks (or close equivalents), with the ability to engage in technical conversations at a high level.
- Strong familiarity with system design, software architecture, and devops practices; deep expertise in at least one area of the devops lifecycle.
- Knowledge of secure development practices and ability to uphold security standards across the engineering organization.
- Demonstrated ability to uphold quality through testing strategies and code review processes.
- Experience managing engineering performance, quality, and process across multiple teams or initiatives.
Benefits
- Generous health-insurance package with nationwide coverage, vision, & dental
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching
- Competitive PTO policy – we want our employees fresh, healthy, happy, and energized!
- Generous family leave policy
- Work from anywhere to facilitate your work life balance
- Apple laptop, large second monitor, and other quality-of-life equipment you may want. Technology is something that should make your life easier, not harder!
At Reserv, we value diversity in backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences and believe that diversity in viewpoints and critical thinking drives innovation, first-principles thinking, and success. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and encourage those from all walks of life to apply. If you believe you are a good fit for this role, we would love to hear from you!
Safe Remote Job Search Tips
Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
