Job Description Summary
Rackspace is looking for a Linux Systems Engineer with scripting experience to work on our multi-tenant email platform. This team is responsible for the design, development, testing and deployment to a variety of email subsystems. These systems are responsible for sending and receiving hundreds of millions of messages per day and providing access to petabytes of email message data for millions of users.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
·Implementation of complex designs and development of large-scale distributed systems
JOB COMPLEXITY:
·Ensure completeness of the technical infrastructure to support system performance
·Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends in the email industry
·Follow and execute Rackspace change management processes
·Participate in systems/code reviews and design sessions
·Participate in Root Cause Analysis
·Present brown bags/tech talks to internal groups
·Take full ownership of product life cycle
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
·Requires a minimum of 10+ years Linux systems experience, including systems administration or engineering experience
·Scripting language development experience (Bash, Python, Ruby, etc.)
·Experience building and packaging software for deployments using meta package managers (Yum, Apt, PIP, etc.)
·Familiarity with Internet email protocols (POP, IMAP, SMTP) and email architecture
·Experience installing and configuring IMAP/POP email servers (Dovecot, Courier, etc.)
·Experience installing and configuring mail transport agents (Postfix, Sendmail, Momentum, etc.)
·Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field preferred
·RHCE preferred
NICE TO HAVE KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:
·Experience using a configuration management system (Chef, Ansible, etc.)
·Experience working with a large-scale system (1000+ servers)
·Experience with relational databases (preferably MySQL)
·Experience with non-relational databases (Redis, Cassandra)
·Experience with Linux logging services like Syslog-ng and Flume
·Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, XP, Lean, Kanban, etc.)
·Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment concepts
·Understands architectural principles (e.g. high availability, security, business continuity, etc.)
