Job Description

About Propel
At Propel, we’re on a mission to make it easier for low-income Americans to access and manage government benefits. Our app, used by over 5 million families monthly, helps users navigate financial challenges and save money.

All of our users deserve first-class experiences in their daily interactions with the social safety net and financial services, and too often, tech leaves this population behind. We're a passionate team of 100 Propellers – all working towards a vision where all Americans can make it through every month with dignity and abundance.

Position Overview

We’re looking for a data driven and user centric Product Manager to join our benefits team, reporting into our Director of Product. This person will partner closely with senior product managers (PMs) leading our core EBT product areas to drive meaningful user and business impact through feature improvement and expansion.

What you’ll do:

  • Drive the end-to-end definition & execution of several features across benefits - acting as the Subject Matter Expert for one or multiple feature launches
  • Coordinate with design and engineering to align on the scope and requirements for small to medium-sized projects
  • Collaborate with data, engineering and product operations to align on the correct rollout or experimentation strategy for the product or feature launch
  • Produce effective documentation to drive clarity around project requirements and align stakeholders around the proposed scope and impact of each feature
  • Leverage the learnings and insights from each release to propose new data-driven ideas and investments for future cycles
  • Communicate the user and business impact of the work you do, and champion the team’s wins and learnings within the company
  • Maintain a healthy culture and cadence around reviewing data and insights related to benefits on our team
  • Build your expertise in the benefits space, and become a trusted domain expert on all things benefits hub, balance checking and how our benefits product operates

What you need:

  • 3+ years of work experience
  • 1+ years of working in product management at a consumer technology company – including examples of end-to-end ownership of impactful features
  • Experience or demonstrated comfort working in a startup environment; desire and willingness to operate effectively and independently when faced with ambiguity
  • Strong mission alignment
  • Technical competency – experience working with or alongside technical systems and engineering functions in some capacity
  • Previous experience or interest in working with public benefits or other government systems

At Propel, you'll enjoy:

  • Meaningful work and a strong, shared sense of mission with a passionate and world-class team
  • Remote-friendly work environment with a dog-friendly office in Downtown Brooklyn
  • 20 days of PTO and unlimited sick days
  • 4% 401K match
  • $10k lifetime spend towards Carrot Fertility
  • Excellent Medical, Dental and Vision options
  • Other health and mental health focused benefits and perks
  • Propel builds compensation bands referencing the 75th percentile of compensation for companies like us. Expected compensation for the role as scoped is $105,000 - $165,000 and will be based on how a candidate matches to our internal leveling guide.

Additional Considerations:

  • We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team, and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and abilities.
  • We're currently accepting applications from the states we have an established entity, which includes California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

Join us in using technology for good and solving challenging problems in creative ways. Together, we can make a more inclusive tech landscape and empower millions of Americans.

More About Propel

We believe that Americans with limited income deserve modern, respectful, and effective experiences around their government benefits and money. Unfortunately, the status quo often fails to treat them as first-class citizens in their daily interactions around the social safety net and financial services. The tech industry hasn't pulled its weight in solving the problems faced by low-income Americans.

Propel's mission is to change that. We've built the single most popular app in the country built specifically for low-income Americans. Over 5 million families each month use Propel to seamlessly manage their government benefits (programs like SNAP, commonly known as food stamps) and save and earn money. Propel has been recognized by the White House, featured on the front page of the NYTimes, and carries over 500,000 five star reviews.

Propel is a for-profit, venture-backed company that holds its social mission at its core. We're proud to be supported by a blend of nonprofits, impact investors, and world-class investors, including the Robin Hood Foundation, Andreessen Horowitz, Nyca Partners, Financial Health Network, JPMorganChase, Kevin Durant, Serena Williams, and Nas.

Join us, and let's build something amazing together!

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
