Job Description
Mercury is revolutionizing finance for startups by building a complete, user-friendly banking* stack. It turns out, this requires a lot of talented people, so we’re looking to add a Senior Business Recruiter to our team to hire exceptional Compliance, Risk, Audit, and Legal professionals who will help shape Mercury’s next stage of growth.
As an early member on a newly formed recruiting team, you’ll partner directly with leadership and executives across Mercury’s GRC teams, and have the opportunity to run full-cycle recruiting efforts for an area of the business that is both foundational and existential to the viability of the company—without these folks and the work they do, Mercury wouldn’t exist, nor scale.
You will tackle niche, complex searches by employing strategic and innovative sourcing and networking techniques, staying abreast of talent and market trends across the broader banking, financial services, and fintech industries, and serve as an embedded partner to these teams.
*Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group, Column N.A., and Evolve Bank & Trust, Members FDIC.
Here are some things you’ll do on the job:
- Develop a deep understanding of Mercury’s values, brand, products, and business model
- Work closely with hiring managers and interviewers to design interview panels, proactively network within the industry, source strong candidates who meet the needs of the business, and close candidates by positioning Mercury as an innovative fintech leader in the GRC space
- Shape what success looks like on a newly formed recruiting team, and hold a high culture and hiring bar to ensure we’re able to attract and retain best-in-class GRC talent
- Position yourself as a true strategic partner to the GRC teams by keeping abreast of fintech and banking industry trends and talent market, and building a deep understanding of the U.S. banking and financial regulatory environment
- Be a strong advocate for building inclusive, diverse teams across all levels and GRC skill sets, and guide hiring teams towards unbiased hiring decisions
- Identify and engage top talent through both passive and active channels, and deliver an exceptional candidate experience as an embodiment of Mercury’s culture and values
- Have the opportunity to lead 0 > 1 recruiting efforts as Mercury expands our business and products, which will require hiring GRC professionals with niche skill sets and regulatory knowledge
- Be comfortable working with data and interpreting the story it tells into actionable insights, business recommendations, performance improvements, and recruiting process enhancements
You should:
- Have 5+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience; 7+ years of experience overall in a talent, people, or HR-equivalent function
- Have deep experience recruiting for niche business roles across mid-level ICs to senior-level leadership, ideally for Risk, Compliance, Audit, or Legal teams
- Have experience influencing and partnering with senior-level and Executive-level stakeholders and hiring managers, and be a trusted hiring partner and strategic advisor to their teams
- Have strong sourcing and networking skills, with the ability to engage the appropriate talent proactively for longer-term hiring needs and/or when working on confidential searches
- Enjoy building diverse, inclusive, and high-performing teams, and lead with deep empathy, kindness, and care for the work you do
- Enjoy creative problem solving and working within difficult constraints, having the ability to effectively prioritize your work against business demands, and optimize your workflow through automation and improvements to process
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills that demonstrate clarity and precision
- Have a strong sense of urgency and ownership for the work you do, and be willing to help support hiring efforts across other areas of the business, as needed
- Have experience working with recruiting tools such as LinkedIn Recruiter, Greenhouse, Covey, Ashby, Metaview, or similar

Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
