About the Role:
- We are seeking a Technical Line Manager to lead our IoT Device Observability team, responsible for ensuring device health, telemetry, and performance monitoring across our connected product fleet. You will guide a multidisciplinary team focused on building end-to-end observability systems from the device edge to the cloud, ensuring real-time insights, reliability, and visibility at scale.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of engineers across embedded systems, cloud, and data pipelines to design, build, and maintain observability infrastructure for IoT devices.
- Define the long-term roadmap for device telemetry, logging, and diagnostics.
- Drive best practices for monitoring device uptime, performance, and user experience.
- Collaborate with firmware, backend, data, and product teams to align technical and business goals.
- Implement scalable data pipelines to handle real-time and historical telemetry data.
- Ensure robust alerting, anomaly detection, and root cause analysis systems.
- Coach and mentor team members, promote a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Balance hands-on technical involvement with people and project leadership.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in engineering roles with at least 2 years in a leadership/management position.
- Strong understanding of IoT architectures, embedded systems, and communication protocols (MQTT, CoAP, BLE, etc.).
- Experience with cloud-based observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, AWS CloudWatch, etc.).
- Proven track record of managing teams that build scalable telemetry and observability solutions.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and monitoring in production environments.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with OTA (Over-the-Air) update systems and edge computing.
- Prior work on large-scale IoT device fleets.
- Knowledge of data engineering pipelines (Kafka, Spark, Flink) for telemetry.
- Understanding of regulatory and security considerations in IoT environments.

The compensation range for this position will depend on where you reside. Motive uses three geographic zones to determine pay range. For this role, the compensation ranges are:
